The Federal Government’s JobKeeper program is now open for eligible employers to enrol. This program, the biggest of its kind, will assist businesses greatly through COVID-19 and it is vital that you review the following steps, information and links to ensure that you are eligible and compliant for these payments for your employees.

  1. Determine that you are eligible as an employer for the JobKeeper program. https://www.ato.gov.au/general/jobkeeper-payment/employers/eligible-employers/

  2. Ensure that you are able to access the Business Portal using your MyGov ID, as this is where you will be required to enrol for the JobKeeper program.   3. Determine which employees are eligible for JobKeeper payments. https://www.ato.gov.au/General/JobKeeper-Payment/Employers/Your-eligible-employees/

  4. Send the JobKeeper employee nomination notice to your nominated employees to complete and return to you by the end of April if you plan to claim the payment for April.  https://www.ato.gov.au/assets/0/104/300/387/d1aab7f2-fbe8-44b8-9ec1-4885ded1088e.pdf

  5. Enrol with the ATO for the JobKeeper payment using the ATO Business Portal. This must be done by the 30th April in order to claim JobKeeper payments for the month of April. On this form you are also able to register for the JobKeeper payment as an eligible Business Participant (an owner who doesn’t receive a wage from the business).   6. Ensure that you are paying all of your eligible employees $1,500 before tax each JobKeeper fortnight. Don’t stress if you haven’t done this yet as you are able to catch up April’s payments by 30 April and still be eligible for your April payment.   7. IMPORTANT! For businesses who lodge their payroll with STP, ensure you update each eligible employee in the software and lodge via STP for April payments by 30 April.

    For businesses that don’t use STP software and have less than 40 employees, you will be required to manually enter the tax file number and date of birth of each eligible employee online using the Business Portal from the 4th May.

    For all other accounting system users, please refer to your relevant software providers for details on how to ensure that you are JobKeeper STP compliant.

  8. Each month you will be required to complete a monthly declaration in order to receive the JobKeeper payment which will confirm your eligible employees (and note any changes) and also your turnover for each month through the Business Portal.
